La settimana scorsa sono stata a Bologna ,per la fiera del libro illustrato per bambini, e dato che spesso ricevo emails con richieste di consigli in proposito, ho pensato di fare un breve riassunto qui.
Come sempre è stata un'esperienza stancante ma anche interessante e divertente.
Ci sono stati colloqui con editori ( prenotati e non) , giri fra gli stands per vedere cosa c'è di nuovo e incontri con gli amici che ,data la lontananza, si possono vedere pochissimo in altre occasioni.
Consiglio 1 (vivissimo a tutti ) : andateci con amici, assolutamente.
La fiera è un evento da vivere con loro o con persone care. Persone con cui condividere le emozioni belle e meno belle che il salone inevitabilmente porta con sè.
Così saprete con chi saltellare di gioia per un vostro libro presente in fiera o con chi confortarvi se un colloquio è stato poco gradito ;)
Inoltre è sempre utile e bello guardare i lavori degli altri e scambiarsi a voce esperienze e sorrisi.
Consiglio 2 : evitate la toccata e fuga di un solo giorno se abitate lontano poichè è deleteria :)
E' meglio prenotare una stanza per almeno un paio di giorni e godersi il meritato riposo la sera, tra un giorno e l'altro.Fuori Bologna costa meno, ovviamente .
Andate vestiti comodi e a strati,nei padiglioni fa sempre più caldo. All'interno della fiera c'è un deposito per i bagagli ,a pagamento, per l'intera giornata.
Consiglio 3: preparate dei bigliettini da visita (da lasciare nell'apposito spazio e ai colloqui ) e un book ordinato , con poche cose ben scelte e rappresentative di voi stessi e del vostro lavoro. Siate voi stessi e tranquilli, sempre.
Gli editori non mangiano nessuno ma sono più stanchi nel pomeriggio (come lo sarete voi) e quindi pazientate se saranno di poche parole. Solitamente gli stranieri sono più ben disposti ma non scoraggiatevi,mai.
Meglio conoscere qualche parola d'inglese e portare con sè dei libri già pubblicati o progetti libro, se li avete. Così potrete rompere il silenzio imbarazzante di chi guarderà il vs book ;)
La MIA fiera quest'anno è stata molto bella.
Ho ritrovato persone care e sincere ,rivisto i loro sorrisi e condiviso con loro emozioni e riflessioni.
Ho fatto dei colloqui, alcuni interessanti ed istruttivi, altri meno.
Ho conosciuto nuovi colleghi illustratori ,collaboratori e visitato la mostra interna ,molto interessante. L'ospite d'onore quest'anno era la Korea e c'era anche una mostra personale su R. Innocenti; altrettanto godibile.
Ho avuto l'onore di vedere il mio ultimo libro sugli scaffali ,con grande orgoglio e commozione.
Come sempre ,dopo la fiera, c'è un grande fermento e una gran voglia di rimescolare tutto e rimettersi in gioco ancora una volta.
Grazie a tutti gli Indreamers, ai Plum Puddies e a chi ripone la propria fiducia in me e nei miei disegni. Un grazie speciale a Mark ,per il sostegno e la sua pazienza verso il mio inglese, a Amy e a Sue, amiche lontane ma molto care.
L'elenco di tutti sarebbe troppo lungo; chi c'era sappia che è stato comunque e sempre d'aiuto.

Bookfair Bologna
The last week i've been at the Bologna Children's Book Fair .
I often receive emails with questions about it so I thought to make a short comment here.
The bookfair is always an interesting and funny experience at hte same time. I spoke with publishers (with reserved meetings and not), turned between the stands to take a look on new things and met friends who live far from my town.
Suggestion 1: go to the bookfair with friends, absolutely.
The fair is an event to live with them or with beloved persons. Persons with which sharing the beautiful and less beautiful emotions that the fair unavoidably carries with. They 'll be with you in your "hop of joy" for your published book or to console you for a wrong meeting ;)
Anyway it's always useful and beautiful to take a look of friends' portfolios and to exchange experiences and smiles.
Suggestion 2: if you live far away from Bologna don't stay at the fair for a single day ,personally i think it's deleterious :)
It's better to reserve a room for few days and enjoy the deserved rest in the evening, between the days. Outside Bologna it's less expensive, obviously. The best dress is something comfortable and with " layers" , so hot in the halls!. There is a warehouse for the baggages inside of the fair ,you need to pay a low fee for all the day.
Suggestion 3: You should make some business cards (to leave on the Pinboard and when you have your meetings) and a tidy portfolio, with little and representative things of you and of your job. Be calm and be yourself, always.
The publisher " don't eat" anyone but they are tired in the afternoon (as you will be) and by quiet if they will have little few words. Usually the foreing publishers are more kind !.
It's better to know some English word and carry with oneself some books (already published ) or book projetcs , if you have them. In this way you will be able to break off the embarrassing moments of who will watch your portfolio ;)
MY fair has been beautiful!
I met again sincere and beloveds persons, I saw again their smiles and shared with them emotions and thoughts. I had my meetings, some interesting and instructive, other less. I knew new illustrators, colleagues and visited the exhibitions, really interesting.
This year we had Korea as guest of honor and there was a personal exhibition about R.Innocenti too .
With my great pride and commotion I saw my last book "Arancino arancione"( the orange bunny) on the shelves !
As ever, after the bookfair,there is a great ferment and a great wish to be once again "in game". Thanks to the Indreamers, the Plum Puddies and to all that have confidence in me and my illustrations. A special thanks to Mark, for his support and his patience with my poor English, to Amy and Sue, beloved and far friends . The list of all would be too long !My love for each person who was with me.
